How many times can the team score before they are out of the game?
It has been a rollercoaster season for Inter.
They were on the verge of winning the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, and in the midst of their worst start to a Serie A season since 2006.
The club was in dire straits before they were relegated to Serie B in March, and even with the return of a few key players and the signing of one of the stars of last season, Roberto Pereyra, they are still struggling to make any progress in the Serie A table.
Inter have now gone four games without a win, conceding seven goals in the process.
It is the longest stretch without a clean sheet in Serie A.
In fact, in the first 15 matches of the season, Inter have not even scored once.
It has been almost a month since the team have played any football, with the last five games being drawn.
The last time Inter played a home game, they lost 2-1 to Lazio in the Champions Cup quarter-final.
The players were not sure how they would react to their first league game of the new season, which they had only played in front of their own supporters.
They were also in a precarious situation, with only one week remaining on the current contract, with both of their strikers having injuries.
Inter are still a long way from being competitive, however.
A loss to Roma would have given them a point, while their opponent Lazio would have dropped them down to 13th place in Serie B, a position they are currently fighting for.
There are several factors that have kept Inter from getting back into the game, and one of them is that the squad has only recently been brought in.
The squad is a group of players who have had to fight for the starting places in recent years.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, a former Inter striker, was brought in as a replacement for Mario Mandzukic, but the Croatian striker’s arrival was short-lived.
The signings of Paulo Dybala and Carlos Bacca have also brought competition to the starting line-up, with Dybalas performance making him an obvious replacement for Mandzuka, but he was only given his first start after the international break.
Inter were also without Leonardo Bonucci, who has not played since November, as well as Giorgio Chiellini, who was injured for Inter’s Copa del Rey clash with Sassuolo.
They had already lost two of their top strikers, Andrea Barzagli and Marco Verratti, who are both on loan at Inter.
Inter have also lost a defender, Paulo Nagamura, as he is yet to be included in the squad.
A win for Inter would have lifted them to seventh place in the table, and would give them enough points to reach the Champions’ League knockout stage.
But the current state of the squad means that they would have to fight hard for a Champions League place, and the players would have little time to adjust to a new league.
For the players, it is the first time since they arrived that they will not be playing in a match.
Inter are currently in fifth place, seven points behind leaders Juventus.
If they fail to reach Europe next season, then they could face another difficult season, with relegation from the top flight looking increasingly likely.
Inter play Sassuoli on Saturday, and are currently third in Serie C.
